CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support

The Certificate III in School Based Education Support provides participants with the skills to assist school teaching staff in the care and supervision of a class of students, ranging from kindergarten to year 12.

This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Education assistants and Special needs education assistants work in all schools throughout the Kimberley and Pilbara.
Participants will learn how to:
- Work with children and young people at risk of harm
- Work with culturally diverse students, families and co-workers
- Assist students in their learning and development
- Contribute to the safety and health of students
- Support students with additional needs
You will also gain skills and knowledge for communicating with teachers and parents, understanding the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and supervising students outside the classroom.
You will complete general administrative as well as operational tasks to support students with learning under the guidance of a teacher or other educational professional.
Students must be based in the Kimberley or Pilbara region to enrol in this qualification, in order to satisfy the supervised work placement assessment criteria.
Students will gain skills to support school students in:
- Literacy and numeracy support
- Individual and group support
- Behaviour management strategies
- Additional needs
- Working with others
This course is suited to you if:
- You enjoy working with children
- You are currently working with others in a school setting providing support to children
- Are capable of completing a work placement
