This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Every year, billions of dollars are invested in infrastructure projects to enhance our cities and towns. 

This creates countless job opportunities in the civil construction sector throughout Western Australia and beyond. Students will gain the practical skills needed to thrive in entry-level civil construction roles throughout this course. This course covers essential tasks such as using tools and equipment, reading plans, and performing manual labour like site preparation and excavation. Emphasis is placed on worksite safety, effective communication, and task organisation. With these skills, students will be ready to meet industry standards and take on a variety of roles in the civil construction sector. 

Throughout this course, you will gain skills in: 

  • Reading and interpreting plans and job specifications 
  • Planning and organising worksite tasks 
  • Worksite communication 
  • Work health and safety 
  • Using hand and power tools 
  • Operating small plant and equipment 
  • Manual excavation, draining, leveling, trenching and concreting 
  • Disposing waste materials 
  • You are a school leaver 
  • You have minimal practical work experience 
  • You enjoy working in a hands-on outdoors job 
  • You wish to pursue a career in the civil construction industry 

You will attend eight one-week blocks of training. You will also need to complete some out of class activities, including prescribed reading and activities throughout the duration of your training.
