This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Overview

Study Mode Apprenticeship | On campus | Online

Throughout this course, you will work with dozers, trucks and other plant to build new roads and bridges and key buildings within the region. 

As part of this qualification, you will learn how to plan and organise specific work projects following worksite health and safety regulations. You will learn how to read and interpret plans and specifications, work at heights, operate a skid steer, excavator, front end loader and small plant and equipment. You will gain practical skills in hand and power tool operation and preparing, excavating, maintaining and disposing of waste on civil construction sites. 

Throughout this course, you will gain skills in: 

  • Planning, communicating and organising work 
  • Reading and interpreting plans and specifications 
  • First Aid, worksite health and safety, hazard identification and risk management 
  • Working at heights 
  • Operating a skid steer, excavator and front end loader 
  • Using hand and power tools 
  • Preparing, excavating and maintaining civil construction sites 
  • Resource and infrastructure management 
  • You have an employer and seek to become a plant/machine operator through an apprenticeship 
  • You are an experienced machine operator who requires updating of skills and possible recognition of current competencies
