Study Mode Combined (Online and On Campus)
Training is focused on empowering and equipping students with the knowledge and competencies required of care workers to deliver individualised support to people with disability.
Please be aware that COVID-19 vaccination is an employment requirement for many healthcare providers. NR TAFE students undertaking work placements or who are required to attend a healthcare or community setting as part of their studies are advised to check directly with the healthcare provider regarding their policy settings around vaccination and proof of vaccination requirements.
- Developing and implementing individualised support
- Infection control
- Providing transport, attending appointments, going on social outings, assisting with household tasks like meal planning and cleaning, personal care support such as hygiene and dressing
- Caring for people with a disability, supporting and enabling them to maintain their independence and well being.
- Client empowerment and facilitation of rights
- Community participation and social inclusion
- Learn how to implement effective communication strategies and work with a diverse range of groups of varying cultures and backgrounds
- Understanding healthy bodies and supporting people to maintain health and wellbeing while managing conditions such as dementia and skin integrity
- Working with people with mental health issues
- Supporting relationships with carers and family members
- Legal and ethical requirements
- Safe work practices
This course is suited to you if:
- You have a passion for empowering other people to achieve their own goals.
- You are compassionate and empathetic person with a caring nature.
- You can work independently and have a motivating attitude.
- Have lived experience simply willing to learn how to support people with a disability.
- You have the physical capability to undertake manual handling and to support clients e.g. pushing a wheel chair, or assisting to safely transfer a client.
- Are able to take responsibility for your own work within the scope of the job role and delegation.
- You must complete at least 120 hours of work placement to successfully complete this course (support is provided to find a suitable organisation)
