Delivered on campus in the Kimberley and Pilbara, this course prepares you for the demands of modern construction while immersing you in some of the most dynamic and fast-growing regions in the country. You’ll learn from experienced trainers who work with, and understand, local industry needs and the unique conditions of the Kimberley and Pilbara.

The building and construction industry is experiencing strong demand for skilled workers so there has never been a better time to start your carpentry career. Residential growth and ongoing development across the Northwest means qualified carpenters are needed now and into the future.

Apprentices will learn through a combination of on-the-job training and block training delivered on campus.

Throughout this course, participants will acquire skills that enable them to carry out a range of tasks required in the building and construction industry.

First Year - Foundations of Carpentry

Get straight into the action as you develop the essential practical skills and knowledge every carpenter needs. You’ll learn how to work safely, handle tools with confidence, and understand core building techniques — setting a strong foundation for your trade career.

Second Year - Build a Real Structure from Start to Finish

Put your skills into practice on an exciting full-scale timber-framed building project. Working to Australian Standards and Building Codes, you’ll complete 12 units while constructing a single dwelling from the ground up.
From stumps, bearers and joists to wall framing, roofing, cladding, and lining, you’ll gain experience across every stage of the build. To top it off, you’ll learn sustainable practices by demolishing, packing down, and recycling materials at the end of the project.

Third Year - Master the Craft

In your final year, you’ll refine your expertise with advanced carpentry skills. Learn to construct pitched roofs, stairs, doors, and windows, and bring your projects to life with professional finishing touches such as skirting, mouldings, panelling, and trims. This is where you transform from apprentice to qualified carpenter.

If students do not require all units in a block, alternative arrangements can be accommodated, on request prior to the block commencing.

You will be assessed by demonstration of your practical skills and responses to knowledge questions.

Delivery may have slight variation between campuses due to demand of that location and industry.
